It’s a busy week for us at Radeon Technologies Group. We’re in Cologne, Germany for Gamescom and we’re also in Dallas, USA for QuakeCon, an annual BYOC (bring your own computer) event organized by ZeniMax Media.
QuakeCon’s start goes all the way back to 1996, started by a group of friends on IRC, to become one of the biggest BYOC events in the world. It’s a four-day event of tournaments (the Quake World Championships being the main feature this year), exhibits and a LAN party that stretches across nearly half the space of the Gaylord Texan convention center.
The AMD Booth at QuakeCon
AMD has a huge presence at this year’s QuakeCon, sponsoring the Quake World Championships powered by Radeon RX Vega GPUs and setting up a large space for gamers to try Quake Champions on Radeon RX 580 and Ryzen 7 systems. We also set up two systems with a Radeon RX Vega and Ryzen Threadripper for some extra “oomph”.
Quake Champions, Bethesda Games, and More
Of course, what’s QuakeCon without featuring Bethesda’s highly anticipated games?
The first AMD-sponsored Quake World Champions (powered by Radeon RX Vega) match at QuakeCon featured Team Liquid vs. Myztro Gaming, with the action available for all to watch on twitch.tv/QuakeChampions. The finals will be featured throughout QuakeCon, so keep an eye on the Twitch channel to see who will take home the coveted $1 million prize.
Attendees got to try Bethesda’s upcoming titles Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider and The Evil Within 2. (Our booth has Quake Champions and Wolfenstein, so stop by our booth to check off two games in one zone on your Bethesda Passport!)
Quake Champions also ran on FreeSync monitors, getting that buttery-smooth performance eSports players need for agility and instinctive thinking.
No Shortage of QuakeCon Goodies
Even if you didn’t bring your own computer to QuakeCon, it’s a treat of an event for gamers: the convention center is packed with mini games offering prizes, vendors showing off their latest gear, the best of immersive VR on display… and it was only the first day.
More QuakeCon Action is Coming
